Government of the Federal DistrictMexico City, Mexico In 1997, the Government of Mexico City ceased being an administrative department of the federal government, where the president elected the local authorities. Since then, for the first time in the history of the city its authorities were democratically elected. Alejandro Encinas Rodriguez, the new mayor of the Federal District continues to push forward the social programmes, public works, economic development and the policies towards public security which have characterised the democratically elected governments of the capital.

Government of the State of MexicoMexico City, Mexico The State of Mexico was formed on March 2 1823 and it is part of the Mexican Republic. It is divided into 125 municipalities and its population is above 15 million, mainly concentrated in the Mexico Valley that surrounds the country’s capital (Federal District) and the Toluca Valley, located 60 kilometres away from Mexico City. Its main economic activities are industry and services, although rural areas occupy an important portion of its territory. The State generates more than 10% of the country’s GDP. The current head of the Government of the State of Mexico is Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto, elected for the period 2005-2011. |
National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)Mexico City, Mexico The National Autonomous University of Mexico is the educational institution with the longest academic and cultural tradition in the country. Its historical precedents date back to 1551 and it was officially re-founded a national university in 1910. It has trained many of the most illustrious names in the sciences, humanities, culture and arts from Mexico and Latin America. Our institution is a pioneer in scientific research in fields such as genomics and ecology, and in humanities and social sciences such as philosophy of science and regional studies. Its academic staff comprises 32,815 professors, researchers and academic technicians along with 28,272 administrative support staff. In the period 2004-2005 279,054 students registered at the UNAM: 105,972 in upper-secondary education; 3,064 in professional, technical and vocational levels; 150,253 in undergraduate studies and 19,765 at post-graduate level.

School of Architecture and Urbanism, Iberoamericana UniversityMexico City, Mexico Established in 1955, Universidad Iberoamericana is one of the foremost private universities in Mexico. With a strong emphasis on design, the school of architecture has close to 700 students in two programmes: an undergraduate degree in architecture, and a Masters Programme in Urban Development projects. Its 170 professors, with a strong group of practicing professionals and young practitioners, is engaged in various forms of professional and academic work including private and public commissions, consultancy and research.
